The quest for excellence

Our familyat the heart of history

Attached to the Grand Cru terroir of Mailly-Champagne, 7 generations of winegrowers have perpetuated the family know-how. Through their determination and boldness, they developed our estate and produced top-quality champagnes. Like a family legacy, rigor and exacting standards still guide our work today.

1870

Our story begins.

Henry MULLER, from Luxembourg, decided to join his wife from the village of Mailly-Champagne.

Over the years, René and many others developed the domaine through hard work and a passion handed down from generation to generation.

1980

Christian MULLER created his own champagne brand.

Faithful to his work philosophy, he was one of the first in the Champagne world to practice reasoned viticulture, which tends to limit the impact on the environment as much as possible.

With his innovative ideas and union involvement, he was able to convince and defend Champagne culture.

With a fine palate and a keen sense of the vine, he was driven by passion.

1991

Hedwige takes over the family business.

Christian MULLER's daughter knew exactly where she wanted to go.

Thanks to her experience in various champagne houses, she immediately knew how to highlight her heritage, her family and her terroir.

Wine tourism, sharing, welcoming the curious and the passionate to the estate, have been a real driving force for her.

2015

Hugues naturally took over from his grandfather and mother.

Anchored in a world where more and more worlds can intersect and mutually enrich each other, he travels to Burgundy, where he learns about "red" winemaking, and to Alsace, where he perfects his vine-growing skills.

His view of the environment goes beyond the ecological sense and focuses on champagne: its birth, its life and its tasting.

"No pain, no gain"expresses the high standards we set

Convinced that the excellence of wine depends on a healthy ecosystem, we have adopted environmentally-friendly practices for many years, thus limiting our impact on nature.

Respecting what nature has to offer

In this way, every step we take aims to produce top-quality wines, while protecting our precious terroir for future generations.

  • Fauna and Flora : ban on insecticides
  • Fertilization : soil analysis before intervention
  • Vineyard management : grassing of plots
  • Reasoned viticulture : implementation of prophylatic protection
  • Working of the soil : no herbicides
  • Biodiversity : use of natural mating disruption in the vineyards
  • Respect for the environment : some of our plots are cultivated without the use of synthetic products

Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne, for lasting development

The VDC certification of our winegrowing estate requires the implementation of specifications which are exclusive to the Champagne region. We therefore do our very best to preserve the natural environment, biodiversity and soil quality, in order to use our land in a balanced, non-abusive way.

Mailly-Champagnecradle of our family vineyard

It's in Mailly-Champagne, whose vineyards are classified as Grand Cru, that our family has built up its entire vineyard estate. Today, it counts 15 hectares of vines with an average age of 26 years.

A parcel-based vineyard

Exclusively in the village of Mailly-Champagne, our vineyards are spread over nearly 70 parcels. A singularity of which we are particularly proud, and which enables us to express the Spirit of Mailly-Champagne in our wines.

A mosaic of micro-terroirs

The acquisition of new plots of land has always been guided by careful consideration of their specific characteristics.

Indeed, soil composition and altitude vary considerably between the village's different localities, influencing their viticultural potential. In addition, Mailly-Champagne's rolling hillsides make it one of the few terroirs in Champagne to benefit from all four exposures, offering exceptional diversity.

These contrasts give rise to a real mosaic of micro-terroirs, each with its own unique characteristics. It is therefore essential to identify them with precision in order to reveal their full richness and judiciously adapt the grape varieties.

2 grape varieties to create the perfect match

Our vineyards are planted with 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. They flourish on our sunny Montagne de Reims hillsides and express themselves harmoniously in our champagnes.

The art of patiencefor the excellence of our champagnes

The making of our wines is meticulous and delicate. It is therefore essential to preserve our raw materials, the result of a year's rigorous work.

The grapes are harvested only when fully mature, before being gently pressed to extract the precious juice. After a short period in the vat, our bottles are aged for a minimum of 3 years, in a hand-dug cellar at a constant temperature of 12°C.

A long period of time that is essential for Christian MULLER Champagnes to express the originality and character of this exeptional terroir.
